Jay Slater’s mum slams TV detective over ‘actual purpose he left Airbnb’ declare

The mother of Jay Slater has blasted a former detective for causing her fresh grief after he took to social media to discuss his role in the investigation, claiming his actions have “knocked her back a million steps”.

The 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, disappeared while on a music festival holiday in Tenerife on June 17. His body was tragically found nearly a month later on July 15, close to the village of Masca and not far from where he was last seen.

Mark Williams-Thomas, the ex-detective who had promised to help the family find answers during Jay’s disappearance, has once again spoken out about the matter.

Debbie has said the trolls are back

However, Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, is now pleading for him to back off.

Speaking to MailOnline, she expressed her ongoing turmoil: “I’m still in bits here, I’m having counselling, and it doesn’t get any easier, I couldn’t sleep at all last night because after he posted what he did it on his social media just kicked off all the trolls again.

“What he said has knocked me back a million steps, I just wish he would say what he knows or just stay out of it. We last spoke a few weeks ago briefly because I wanted to clear some things up.”

“There was nothing really new, I just wanted to go over some things and he said if I remembered anything to give me a call and that was it.

“I thought for a second he might have something but now I’m thinking it might just be a PR stunt as all it’s done is that it’s got all the bloody Tick Tockers back and they have never really stopped which is even sadder,” reports the Mirror.

The initial post-mortem suggested Jay’s demise resulted from a “fall or plunge from height”, with injuries confirmed by the Civil Guard including multiple fractures.

In his update video on X from Monday, Mr Williams-Thomas mentioned his close work with the deceased’s family and acquiring substantial information, including from potential witnesses, acquaintances of Jay, and indirectly from authorities.

The search for Jay lasted several weeks in Masca

He highlighted: “I worked very closely with the family and as a result of that, got a lot of information, but also a lot of information from potential witnesses, people involved, people who knew Jay and also the authorities in a roundabout way.

“One of the things that’s very clear is there is a huge amount of misinformation. I’ve been back and looked through some of the videos I took when I went out there, in relation to my investigation and thought processes whilst the investigation was going on.”
