Couple left shocked by discovery of their Victorian home
A couple have been left shocked by an unexpected discovery in the Victorian home they are renovating.
When Emma Harrison and Rhys Stainer purchased the old property in the Malvern Hills last year, they were astounded at a ‘creepy’ feature underneath a hole in the kitchen floor.
After drilling around the edges of the hole, they realised there was a 20 foot deep well in the middle of the kitchen floor.
In a TikTok video that has racked up more than 10 million views, Emma told her followers: ‘Last year my partner and I bought this old Victorian house and it came with this odd little feature under the kitchen floor.
‘It turned out that this little hole in the floor actually turned into this… They’re really cool, but they’re also really creepy.’

The couple have been renovating the property in the Malvern Hills for the past year
She then filmed the impressive well, which they believe dates back at least until the 1880s after looking at historical maps.
They’re now planning to lay a glass top over the well to make it a stand-out feature in the room.
In another video, Emma, who is a designer, added: ‘Yes, there’s a 20 foot well in the middle of our kitchen floor, and yes, it’s probably the thing everyone’s most curious about.
‘Last year we bought this big beautiful Victorian house that needs a lot of TLC. We’re slowly bringing this place back to life and it’s full of quirky surprises.’
And answering people’s questions, she confirmed that no smell comes from the well, there’s no mould and that it’s in good condition.

Not everyone was convinced, however, with viewers taking to the comments to remark it looked like something out of a ‘horror film’.
They wrote: ‘I’ve seen The Ring. close it up’;
‘Don’t you think there is a reason it was concreted up with like 50 layers’;
‘Cool feature but do you really want to be staring into the abyss when all the lights are off?’;
‘Glass is cool and all but what about a trap door for guests that overstay their welcome’;
‘You just opened a portal for ghosts baby girl’; ‘This is how horror movies based on true start’;

The unique property also has an old cellar, which they’re planning on turning into a speakeasy-style bar next year.
The couple, who live there with their two Rottweilers, are also in the process of renovating the building’s large farmhouse extension.
Emma and Rhys are not the only couple to have discovered a well in their home.
