Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock on one factor that winds him up – and it includes Ian Wright

Football hardman Neil Ruddock has moaned that despite his famous nickname, he never gets offered jobs by a razor company.

The former Spurs and Liverpool ace has been overlooked despite being dubbed Razor for his no-nonsense style on the pitch.

Instead, companies like Gillette have used Arsenal ace Raheem Sterling and ex-Gunner Ian Wright.

Ruddock, 56, grumbled: “There is one thing you’d think being called Razor would have brought me.

“To this day I’ve never been sponsored by a razor company.

“Ian Wright’s there shaving his face in front of the nation and I’ve had nothing. Winds me up.

“Razor manufacturers, I don’t care what bit of me I have to shave – beard, back or bikini line – give me a call.”

In his new book Toxic, the Harry’s Heroes star said the lack of telly ad jobs doesn’t stop him getting collared by punters.

He added: “While I’m not quite as clean-shaven as I might be, I definitely do still get recognised.

“I’ll always be Razor to most people, and I’m happy with them calling me that.

“I’ve had people bellowing ‘Razor!’ at me for years – blokes trying to shake my hand while I’m stood at the urinal – and it ain’t going to stop now.

“I’m like a magnet. If I’m in a restaurant full of celebrities and someone walks in off the street, you can bet your life they’ll ignore everyone else and come straight over to me – ‘Razor!’ – because they see me as approachable, which I am.

“So long as no-one tries to nick my naan bread, I’m fine.

“By the way, I’m the exact opposite. If ever I see someone famous when I’m out and about I never go over – I’m too worried they won’t know who the hell I am.

“I couldn’t deal with the embarrassment.”
