Rick And Morty followers rejoice as creator offers replace on present’s future

Fans of Rick And Morty can rejoice: the adult animated sitcom has been picked up for another two seasons.

Considering that the Cartoon Network had already greenlit the Adult Swim show for two more seasons after this upcoming eighth, the show is now guaranteed to propel it through a 12th season, at the very least, in 2029.

Co-creator Dan Harmon and showrunner Scott Marder made the big announcement during the Rick and Morty panel at Thursday’s New York Comic Con that featured some of the main members of the show’s voice cast, according to Variety.

‘Nobody wants a universe without Rick and Morty,’ Harmon, 51, said. ‘Fortunately, the list of places to go remains infinite.’

‘I couldn’t be prouder to have taken this baton pass of a lifetime during Rick And Morty’s fourth season and get us to Season 10. Getting to go beyond that now is such a gift I can’t wait to give our fans. Rick and Morty – a hundred years – forever!’

‘From season one, Rick and Morty set a new standard in adult animation and has shown no signs of stopping,’ Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen chimed in when the big announcement on the renewal was made.

‘Dan, Scott and the rest of the immensely talented team behind Rick and Morty are constantly outdoing themselves and I’ll be joining the millions of fans around the world in looking forward to more adventures in the years to come.’

With season eight set to air next year, the Rick And Morty panel gave fans a taste of what’s to come by rolling out a sneak animatic during the New York Comic Con panel.

The series was created by Harmon and Justin Roiland, who had also voiced the characters of Rick and Morty from the show’s debut until season seven when he was axed following charges of felony domestic battery and false imprisonment.

Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden took over Roiland’s voice roles.

Though the charges against Roiland were later dropped due to insufficient evidence, he did not return to the show.

The series follows the misadventures of Rick Sanchez, a cynical mad scientist and his good-hearted but fretful grandson Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic life and adventures that take place across an infinite number of realities, often traveling to other planets and dimensions through portals and on Rick’s flying saucer.

Those misadventures also include the rest of the Smith household: parents Jerry and Beth, their other child Summer, to go along with Morty and Rick, who lives with them as a guest.

While the family lives in a suburb in the American Midwest, the adventures of Rick and Morty takes place across an infinite number of realities, with the characters traveling to other planets and dimensions through portals and Rick’s flying saucer.

The show premiered on the Cartoon Network’s nighttime programming Adult Swim on December 2013.

Since its debut, the series has received critical acclaim for its writing, originality, creativity, and humor.

It has been nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program, winning the award in 2018 and 2020.

So far, there hasn’t been an official premiere date for season eight of Rick And Morty just yet, but it is expected to air on the Cartoon Network in 2025.

Production on the Emmy-winning animated series was delayed due to the 2023 Writers Guild Of America strike with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
