Joey Barton branded “wet wipe” after homophobic tirade after Arsenal’s defeat

Controversial former footballer Joey Barton has angered fans after sharing a series of tweets referring to sexuality.

Barton appeared to send some live tweets during the Bournemouth-Arsenal game tonight, where the Cherries sensationally clinched a 2-0 win over the title-chasing Gunners. Barton’s three Tweets were sent over two hours, with the first being released at 6pm on Saturday October 19.

He was angry at the referee’s decision during Saturday’s match and claimed there should have been more players sent off the pitch. Some of his followers supported Barton’s tirade, while others shunned him for his views. Arsenal defender William Saliba was sent off after his yellow for fouling Evanilson was escalated to a red after a VR review.

The next said: “Gays have taken over football. It’s a game for men.” And the third: “Football is gay!”

Barton’s comments have a view count of well over 1million. Several fans jumped to his replies to share their thoughts.

One X user wrote: “Jesus man. Really? That you use homosexuality to make a point about an arguably poor refereeing decision. Used to appreciate you. You’ve gone full donut now.”

A second noted: “He was last man you f***ing wet wipe.” A third added: “Making a decision homophobic Joey, nice touch, didn’t say this when you were in charge of Fleetwood did you?”

Others branded him a “melon,” while some simply commented “grow up man.” This was not the first time the midfielder has been under fire for his comments.

Joey Barton
Joey Barton recently fat shamed an ex-footballer

Recently, he called out David Unsworth.. Legendary Everton defender Unsworth, at home at centre-half or left-back, also starred for West Ham, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Sheffield United and Wigan at the highest level.

Barton took aim at Unsworth’s figure in a shocking radio tirade. Barton said of Unsworth, nicknamed “Rhino” who was part of Everton’s 1995 FA Cup-winning side, when working on talkSPORT: “I used to watch him as an Evertonian and he was the most immobile left-back I’ve ever seen. He’s not a manager, he doesn’t look like one.

“I watched him waddling on to the coach. How can you get players to exert themselves physically when you’re out of shape? He’s a glorified PE teacher who shouldn’t be in charge of a men’s team. Look at him on the touchline… he’s more like a steward.”
