Luke Littler branded a ‘freak of nature’ as Van Gerwen loses with 112 common

Luke Littler has been branded as a “freak of nature” after outclassing Michael van Gerwen in Prague.

It’s been a weekend to remember for the 17-year-old megastar who has been playing some of the darts of his very short career. Littler had battered Nathan Aspinall at the Czech Darts Open on Saturday (19 October) evening, setting the tournaments highest ever average with 110.43.

And it took him less than 24 hours to top that incredible milestone as he breezed past Damon Heta in round three. Littler was in destruction mode – and Michael van Gerwen was next on his hit list.

Mighty Mike was sensational, averaging 112.19 – but he still crashed out 6-1 to Littler, who was on a mission. One fan posted: “I can’t even bring myself to take the p*** out of that 112.19 average and getting absolutely battered. Luke Littler is an absolute freak of nature ffs!”

“I’m running out of words to describe Littler,” a second admitted. And another added: “This is why we can’t stop talking about Luke Littler. Generational. Thank you Michael and Luke, this is darts!”

After the clash, Van Gerwen took to social media with a cheeky snap of the pair: “This is not gonna happen again. Fantastic game by @LukeTheNuke180 what a talent. All the best.”

Littler quoted the post on X, formerly known as Twitter, with two heart emojis on Van Gerwen’s colours, green and yellow.

Littler will face the winner of the match between Luke Humphries and Mike de Decker in the semifinals later this evening. In the other semifinal, Niels Zonneveld will face Kim Huybrechts.
