Britain set for 430-mile ‘storm bomb’ in days as climate map warnings issued

A huge rainstorm stretching 430 miles is set to drench parts of Britain. Just days after Storm Ashley’s wrath, weather boffins at WX Charts, using MetDesk data, are predicting a downpour hitting Northern Ireland, Dumfries and Galloway, Wales, and South West England by 3pm on Thursday (October 24).

The colossal band of rain will span from Coleraine in County Londonderry right down to Bournemouth on the south coast. It’s expected to sweep eastwards across the UK, sparing few places from a good soaking.

Northern Ireland and Wales are bracing for the heaviest deluge, with WX Charts forecasting rainfall rates of 2.5mm to 5mm per hour. And there’s no respite in sight, as more rain is forecast for next weekend.

The Met Office’s five-day outlook confirms the wet conditions, warning of a turn to wet and windy weather from the west on Thursday after a “drier and more settled” Wednesday (October 23). This soggy news comes as Brits battle fierce winds of up to 80mph amid Storm Ashley, this season’s inaugural named storm.

A yellow wind warning has blanketed all of Scotland and Northern Ireland, along with parts of north-west England and Wales, set to last until midnight on Sunday (October 20), reports the Express.

The Met Office has placed an amber warning on the north-west of Scotland from 9am until the stroke of midnight, with a stark warning that “injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown on to coastal roads, sea fronts and properties”.

Meanwhile, a yellow weather alert for wind is in place from the witching hour to 9am on Monday (October 21), as Storm Ashley’s blustery remnants are expected to give the north and east of Scotland a good ruffling.

However, no other weather warnings have been dished out for the rest of the week . . . yet.
