Spanish press fume at ‘hero to zero’ Bellingham who has been ‘eclipsed’ at Real

Jude Bellingham has been criticised by Spanish media as his goal drought continues.

Reports from Spain claim that Bellingham’s star power has been eclipsed by Real Madrid‘s new golden boy Kylian Mbappe. In his first season at the club, Bellingham won the Champions League, La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup all while attaining 23 goals and 13 assists.

Clubs like Liverpool had their head in their hands, looking at what they missed out on. However, Bellingham has now failed to score in 11 games and is feeling the heat from the brutal Spanish media.

Spanish paper Marca, a sports newspaper with a primary focus on Real, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, has called Bellingham out for “going from 10 to zero in a year”. This references to Real’s No.5 having 10 goals at this point in the season last year compared to none currently.

They continued to dig into the England international by mocking his open arms celebration, saying “now he has crossed his arms and has not opened them again since May 14, the date of his last goal with Real Madrid.”

Eyes at Real have shifted from Bellingham to Kylian Mbappe, with Marca saying he has been “eclipsed”.

The French superstar has scored eight goals in all competitions and has supposedly ‘stolen the goals that the Englishman had last season at this point.’

In Los Blancos’ last game, a 2-1 win over Celta Vigo, Bellingham was seen getting clearly angry over teammate Vinicius Jr not passing him the ball. Real boss Carlo Ancelotti put it down to the Birmingham born player having ‘balls and character.’

Bellingham was set to get his first goal of the season in their Champions League fixture against Stuttgart. Ex-Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger thought he was fouled in the box, but VAR overturned the penalty decision, leaving Bellingham goalless.

The England international did score for his country in the Nations League match against Greece, but that was overshadowed by Vangelis Pavlidis’ 94th minute winner at Wembley.

Diario Sport, another Spanish media outlet, has joined in with the criticism of Bellingham declaring, “far away is the memory of that player who, with freedom to approach the area, signed some spectacular figures”.

They continued with: “[Bellingham] has gone from being the absolute star of Real Madrid to acting in a more secondary role.”
