Daisy May Cooper breaks down in tears recounting demise of her good friend on Loose Women – and divulges supernatural expertise that modified her life eternally

Daisy May Cooper broke down in tears as she recounted the death of her friend on Loose Women.

The actress, 38, joined the ITV show on Wednesday to discuss her new book Hexy B***h and what inspired her love of the supernatural. 

During the interview, the star revealed that she had been drawn to spirituality as a child when her mother would take her to ‘terrible’ local psychics in her town following the death of her sister. 

But she said it was the death of her best friend ‘Sleggs’ that changed her life after she believes she was contacted from beyond the grave. 

Telling the story to Ruth Langsford, Kelly Bryan, and Mariella Frostrup, the comedian began to cry as she explained how important it was for her to still feel connected to her friend and co-star.

Michael Sleggs starred alongside the writer and her brother Charlie in the award-winning series This Country as Michael Slugette. 

The actor died in 2019, aged 33, after long battle with cancer and Daisy explained that she was with him until the very end.

On the show she revealed that her friend had been in a lot of pain before he tragically passed away and before he died he had told her that within a week he would have a new body.

Daisy said: ‘When Michael was dying he was in so much pain, so much agony and he was terrified.

‘He phoned me and told me “Daisy I’m not scared anymore this angelic spiritual being that came to me and said in seven days I would have a new body which means I’m either going to get better or I’m going o pass away but I’ll be free of this pain.”

‘He died within seven days, and I think that is extraordinary. There are so many things that you just can’t explain.’ 

The star then went on to say she had been losing faith in spirits and ghosts while writing her new book but her brother reassured her Michael would give her a sign.

The actress added that before his passing she had asked him what he would miss most and he replied he would miss their local Phoenix festival which the star described as ‘naff’.

‘He loved it because it was free and within walking distance of his house and it had a Stone roses tribute at playing.’ she joked. 

She then revealed that she knew she was being contacted by ‘Sleggs’ when on the morning of the festival she head a loud banging at her bedroom door.

At the time of Michael’s death, This Country’s ‘completely heartbroken’ co-creators Daisy and her brother Charlie praised their ‘generous, gentle and funny’ friend in a statement 

She said: ‘I was in be with my partner and it was about seven in the morning and I heard this banging on the bedroom door and I thought “It can’t be the cats because they don’t have knuckles.”

‘We both heard it, and we have cameras on the landing and there was nothing, and it turned out that was the day of the Phoenix Festival.’

Daisy then broke down in tears as she recounted the story, telling the hosts that it had to be him and she thought it was extraordinary that he had contacted her from beyond the grave. 

At the time of Michael’s death, This Country’s ‘completely heartbroken’ co-creators Daisy and her brother Charlie praised their ‘generous, gentle and funny’ friend in a heartbreaking statement, saying he was ‘never bitter or self-pitying’ in spite of his ill health.

In a series of tweets, the pair wrote: ‘We are completely heartbroken. Michael was utterly unique.

‘He was kind, he was caring, he was loving. One of the most considerate generous and gentle friends you could ever wish for and funny- f*** me he was funny.

‘Despite everything that Michael had been through in his life, he was never bitter or self pitying. He just brought pure joy to everything and everyone. Just being in his company made you happy to be alive.

‘One of Michael’s favourite films was the Muppet Christmas Carol and he would always joke that he was Tiny Tim so it only seems fitting to quote Kermit the frog…

‘It’s all right, children. Life is made up of meetings and partings. That is the way of it. I am sure that we shall never forget Tiny Tim, or this first parting that there was among us’. Michael you will be so so missed. xxx’
