‘She never had a bad word to say about anyone, indeed she was always known as the nicest Gladiator, always stopping to speak and sign autographs for anyone.
‘She had been battling cancer for a number of years until sadly she lost the fight. RIP Bernie.’

‘Bernadette entered the arena as ‘Falcon’ during the second series in 1993 and instantly became a firm fan favourite. She stayed with the show until its final series in 1999, becoming the second longest-serving female Gladiator.
‘Falcon was also a champion bodybuilder, winning the first competition she entered Miss Natural Health in 1992. She went on to win other titles including Miss Novice Britain, Miss London and Home Counties 1992 and Miss South Britain.
‘Many fans will remember Falcon as the most lovely, warm, generous person with a beaming smile! Our Gladiator family is truly heartbroken with our loss of Bernie.
‘Please respect the privacy of Bernadette’s family at this sad time.’
Another added: ‘I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it hadn’t been for Bernie. It was she who convinced me to do my training to become an aerobic instructor in her days before Gladiators and had the pleasure of working with her at Basingstoke Sports Centre. She was the loveliest of ladies, a beautiful soul with the biggest heart and smile. My thoughts are with her family.’
‘Oh lovely Bernie… I’m so sorry to hear this… I had the great pleasure of knowing and working with her in our local village pub in the early 90s. Never a happier smilier soul I have met. Sending huge condolences and much love. Rest well Bernie,’ penned a third.
Someone else shared: ‘Oh I’m so sad to hear this. Bernie was just the loveliest person. So warm and friendly. Please send my love and condolences to the family.’
Following her time on the show, Bernadette retreated from the spotlight and worked as a personal trainer.
Speaking about life after Gladiators, Bernadette previously told the Basingstoke Gazette: ‘I’m very happy with the work I do now and am always busy. My time is spent as a personal trainer and with my children Adam, 23, and Angel, 4.’
She also starred on International Gladiators between 1994 and 1995.
Before starting out as a bodybuilder, Bernadette was accepted into the London Contemporary Ballet School at the age of 18.
However her dreams of becoming a ballet dancer were crushed when she suffered a back injury which put a stop to her plans.
After beginning her bodybuilding journey, Bernadette won the first competition she entered, Miss Natural Health in 1992.
She went on to win other titles including Miss Novice Britain, Miss London and Home Countries 1992 and Miss South Britain.
Gladiators made household names of the titular competitors, who included Falcon, Jet (Diane Youdale), Wolf (Michael Van Wijk), Cobra (Michael Willson) and Lightning (Kim Betts) among many others, and was presented by likes of Ulrika Jonsson, John Fashanu and Jeremy Guscott.
While some of the stars have gone on to carve out successful careers, others have faced their own personal battles.
Jefferson King went into rehab and stayed clean, revealing in 2011 that he had beaten his addiction and worked at a rehab clinic to help people suffering from drug problems.
However, after a few years he was back on illegal drugs – and was charged with heroin possession.
He then appeared in court accused of a blackmail plot after a day of smoking drugs ‘degenerated rapidly’, according to the Sun.
The former bodybuilder, who is barely recognisable from his 1990s heyday after years of drug abuse, was jailed for six years in August 2021.
Meanwhile, Mike Ahearne aka Warrior hit the headlines as a court heard that he was caught by police with shopping bags full of steroids and CS spray canisters.
The 62-year-old was a huge TV star as Warrior in the hit Saturday night show but fell from grace after he was jailed over a police corruption plot involving drug baron Curtis Warren and a detective chief inspector.
The popular 90s programme ran for eight series on ITV from 1992 until 2000, but the BBC has since confirmed it is reviving the show.

‘Will the contenders have the will and the skill to succeed against our mighty new Gladiators? You’ll have to tune in to find out!’
In 2008, the show was resurrected for two seasons on Sky One, including three episodes that saw the new generation of Gladiators go up against some of the original line-up.
International editions have also sprung up in countries such as Australia, the United States, Finland and South Africa.
