Skoda driver who ‘drove flawed approach down M6’ killing younger household is known as

A man who caused a crash that killed a himself and a family has been named. Richard Woods, 40, was driving a Skoda the wrong way down the M6 until a collision left five people dead.

Woods was driving on the motorway near Tebay services in Cumbria on October 15 when the car collided with a Toyota. He was sadly pronounced dead on the scene. Police believe Mr Woods, from Cambridgeshire, had been reported as driving the wrong way down the northbound carriageway in the Skoda.

Cumbria Police said he has now been formally identified, Mirror reports.

In a statement issued this morning, the force said: “Police can confirm the identity of the driver of the Skoda, involved in the road traffic collision on the M6 Northbound past Tebay on Tuesday 15 October. The driver has been formally identified as Richard Woods, aged 40, from Cambridgeshire.”

In the crash, dad Jaroslaw Rossa, 42, was killed alongside Jade McEnroe, 33, and two children Filip, 15, and Dominic, 7. They were all from Glasgow and believed to have been travelling back from Legoland in their car.

Four fire brigades from Penrith, Kendal, and Shap raced to the scene, with firefighters stationed for hours. A statement released last week by Cumbria Police, said: “The families of those involved are being supported by specially trained officers.

“Officers would like to thank members of the public that assisted at the scene and those affected by the collision for their patience. We would also like to thank those that have already been in touch who witnessed or have dashcam of the incident, we continue the appeal to anyone with information or with dashcam to contacts us.
