Best eating places within the UK revealed: Uber Eats shares the highest takeaways in Britain – so is your favorite on the checklist?

UberEats has revealed its finalists for the UK and Ireland’s best restaurant of the year, with nominated eateries including a top burger bar in London.

The favourite takeaways from across the nation and Ireland were selected from a pool of 130 restaurants and it has now been whittled down to the final 12.

Finalists include Natty’s Jerk Shack in Portsmouth, who are in the running for the third year in a row. Founded in 2017, it prides itself on ‘serving up a modern twist on Jamaican cuisine’. 

Their impressive dishes range from goat curry for £13 to a Sunday roast boasting jerk roasted chicken, rice and peas, roasted potatoes, mac ‘n’ cheese, Yorkshire pudding, veg and jerk gravy with a dessert for £19 a person.

Meanwhile, Bristolians and Brummies have top Indian eateries in their areas – including Urban Tandoor and the Soho Tavern, which is a Gastro pub where people can watch their favourite sports while tucking into flavourful food.

Soho Tavern’s most popular dish is their butter chicken, which will set you back £11.25, following their tikka masala and chilli chips at £5.50.

Elsewhere, London, Gateshead and Limerick are home to the best American burger joints, such as Junglees, 40 Ounce and Locke Burger.

Junglees – which was only established in 2021 – serves burgers and ‘wild wings’, and Uber Eats customers adore their £10.99 smash burger. 

Locke Burger is famed for its house fries, followed closely behind by its bacon cheese burger, which is around £10.54.

There are also some fried chicken shops in the running for the restaurant of the year – including The Nashville Cluck in Liverpool and Chick and Shakes in Nottingham.

The Nashville Cluck believes they have the UK’s ‘best Nashville buttermilk chicken’ as the owners spent some time in the US, ‘to capture the authentic flavour’. 

Sqew Shawarma Bar, a restaurant famed for its kebabs, is representing Leeds in the bid to become the nation home to the best takeaway in the UK.

Mackles ice-cream shop in Belfast, Haystack Cafe in Swansea and Salt & Chilli Oriental in Scotland also made the top 12.

The judges for this year’s competition include Andi Oliver, Kieran Monlouis and 2023 winner Josh Kleiner from Sandwich Sandwich. 

This year’s Grand Prize winner will be crowned at a reception in London on November 14 and the winner will bag themselves a grand prize of £100,000 to invest in their business. 

Uber Eats are also offering each of the finalists a £5,000 prize alongside a support package.

Chick and Shakes in Nottingham will battle it out with another chicken shop for the top prize
