Frasier star Kelsey Grammer has revealed his new wife refused to set foot on his yacht because he had romped there in the past. Ex-flight attendant Kayte Walsh, 45, was so put off by the thought of the actor romancing other women that she made him put the boat up for sale.

And it’s not the first time that a luxury yacht has been used as a seagoing love nest. Here Meg Jorsh lifts the lids on some of history’s most iconic ‘pleasure crafts’…

Diamond teaser

Chartered by Hollywood legends Liz Taylor and Richard Burton in the 1960s, their yacht Kalizma was the backdrop to a famously passionate romance. The 150ft vessel was decked out with priceless artworks by Van Gogh, Monet and Picasso.

Smitten Rich once had it docked in the River Thames so he could present his leading lady with the 33-carat Krupp diamond. Then, while berthed in Monaco, he gave her the £1.2million Cartier diamond, which weighed in at 69 carats and arrived under police escort.

Some like it afloat

Shipping tycoon Aristotle Socrates Onassis was famed for his yacht soirées with stars like Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra. His legendary party ship Christina O helped him seduce a string of high-profile conquests, including opera singer Maria Callas.

The sexy ship was also the place where he courted Jackie Kennedy, the widow of murdered US president John F Kennedy, who later became his second wife. They married on his private Greek island in October 1968.

Fit for a princess

Screen icon Grace Kelly was presented with yacht Arion to mark her engagement to Prince Ranier III of Monaco. She rebranded it Deo Juvante II and the smitten pair spent their royal honeymoon on board, cruising Corsica and Sardinia together in 1956.

The 147-ft yacht has since been renamed Grace and is available to charter for an eyewatering £107,000 per week.

Erotic

Owned by Greek shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos, classic yacht Eros was also the scene of a royal honeymoon. King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain were gifted a trip on the wooden schooner after their 1962 nuptials, as well as a stay on Spetsopoula, his private island.

The luxurious vessel boasts four guest cabins, including a master stateroom with en-suite Jacuzzi.

Loving Bond

Sailing yacht Regina will be familiar to Bond fans as the boat where Daniel Craig enjoyed a steamy shower romp with Bérénice Marlohe. The stunning wood-panelled vessel took a starring role in their 2012 film Skyfall, which saw it chartered by mysterious double agent Sévérine.

The boat can now be chartered for £63,000 per week – but disappointingly, the shower scene was actually filmed at the Four Seasons Hotel in London’s Canary Wharf.

Drool Britannia

Think the Royal Yacht Britannia couldn’t possibly be sexy? Well, think again. The whopping 412ft yacht – owned by the Queen until 1997 – was the scene of King Charles’ first honeymoon with Princess Diana in 1981.

The newlyweds explored the Mediterranean and stopped to visit several Greek islands during their sun-soaked two-week cruise. And while we don’t know a lot of the details, Princess Di hailed the trip as a “tremendous success,” telling former housekeeper Maud Penrey she and Charles had a “glorious time.”
