Queen Letizia seems to be stylish in sensible informal ensemble as she visits winner of Exemplary Town of Asturias Awards with the Spanish royal household

Queen Letizia of Spain cut a chic figure in a smart casual ensemble as she visited the winner of the Exemplary Town of Asturias Awards with the Spanish royal family today.

The Spanish royal family visited the village of Sotres in Cabrales on Saturday to celebrate the Princess of Asturias accolade, which is now in its 35th year.

Queen Letizia, 52, was joined by her husband King Felipe VI, her daughter Princess Sofia, 17, and 18-year-old Crown Princess Leonor – the Asturias Awards’s namesake – for the prize giving.

The award is given to the town or village in Asturias ‘that has stood out in a notable way in the defence and conservation of its natural, environmental setting, its historical and cultural heritage’.

The awards share their name with Princess Leonor, who is the Princess of Asturias.

Queen Letizia opted for smart casual for today’s outing, in a high neck, cream jumper and a tailored blazer in a grey and white chequered pattern.

She completed her ensemble with a pair of black trousers, and kept her brunette locks sleek around her shoulders, with her make-up in her typical natural style.

Her daughters – Leonor and Sofia – were both in blue jeans, with the elder opting for a black T-shirt and a similar jacket to her mother’s, but in a darker colourway.

The youngest Spanish royal wore a dark blue jumper for her family’s trip to Sotres.

The Princess of Asturias Awards are a series of annual prizes awarded in Spain by the Princess of Asturias Foundation – previously the Prince of Asturias Foundation – to individuals, entities or organisations from around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities and public affairs.

Each recipient present at the ceremony receives a diploma, a sculpture expressly created for the awards by Spanish sculptor Joan Miró, and a pin with the emblem of the Foundation.

There is also a monetary prize of 50,000 euros for each category, this amount is shared if the category has more that one recipient.

It comes after Spanish royals put on a stylish display on Friday evening as they attended a concert to usher in an awards ceremony in Oviedo in northern Spain

Queen Letizia and her eldest daughter Crown Princess Leonor looked stunning in complementary blue outfits, while King Felipe VI, 56, also opted for a double-breasted suit in a shade of navy.

Only the Spanish royal couple’s youngest daughter, Infanta Sofia chose black over a shade of blue for the concert held at the Prince Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo ahead of the Princess of Asturias Awards.

Queen Letizia was typically chic in a bright blue, form-fitting midi dress. With its asymmetric neckline and subtle ruching, the long-sleeved number flattered her petite frame.

She teamed her striking dress with gold, pointed toe kitten heels and a matching clutch bag.

The glamorous former journalist wore her glossy, shoulder-length brown hair in a classic blow dry, tucking it behind her ears to reveal a pair of delicate silver and sapphire earrings.

Her smoky eye make-up completed her evening look while a slick of dark red lipstick brightened her bronzed complexion.

Princess Leonor, the future monarch who was today awarded the title of Honorary Mayoress of Oviedo, matched her mother’s elegance in a pale blue tulle skirt printed with flowers.

With a satin waistband and fine pleats, the midi skirt was a true showstopper.

The future queen of Spain expertly teamed the elaborate number with a simple black crew neck top and finished her ensemble with a pair of patent black kitten heels.

She wore her long, blond hair in loose waves and kept her make-up simple, following Letizia’s lead with dark read lipstick and dark eye make-up.
