Tributes flood in for MLS star Holden Trent, 25, after sudden dying

Tributes have poured in from across the MLS as the tragic death of a goalkeeper aged 25 was announced on Saturday.

Holden Trent was a player at Philadelphia Union with the club announcing the awful news in a statement. No cause of death has been revealed but according to Yahoo Sports Trent was admitted to intensive care earlier this week.

In a post online, his club said: “The Philadelphia Union is devastated by the heartbreaking passing of Holden Trent. While he was a wonderful player and fierce competitor, he was more importantly a devoted son, brother, fiance, and team-mate who made those around him better.”

Trent came through the college system in the USA at High Point University before being drafted by the Union where he was a backup goalkeeper. While he never made a first-team appearance he was an unused substitute on eight occasions this season and played six times for the reserve team.

He got engaged to his fiance Brie Losito at the end of last year, and the footballer proposed during a romantic break in Europe.
