Police hunt for XL Bully after it killed canine and bit lady in horror assault
An urgent police hunt is underway after an XL Bully dog killed another canine in a “really distressing incident”. The crazed animal went mauled a Staffordshire bull terrier and and then bit the dog’s owner in Waterfoot, Rossendale, Greater Manchester.
The attack, which occurred on October 23, resulted in the tragic death of the Staffie named Alfie, while the owner sustained a non-serious hand injury. The XL Bully’s owner fled from the scene with the dog in tow, according to Lancashire Police.

A 29 year old man from Rossendale was arrested on suspicion of having a dangerously out of control dog on October 26 and has been bailed pending further enquiries. The police has circulated an image of the dog and are appealing to the public for help.
A police spokesperson said: “Efforts are continuing to locate the XL Bully, which is pictured. We would ask anyone with information on its whereabouts or anyone who witnessed the incident on Wednesday to contact the police.”

In the UK, the breed was banned on February 1, but despite this two people have been killed since it was brought into force, meaning 50% as many people have died in the four months since the ban, as did in the entire 12 months of 2023.
In the first half of 2024, XL bullies have been held responsible for the deaths of Esther Martin, 68, and Angeline Mahal understood to be in her 50s. Both of these deaths came after the ban was introduced with Ester killed on February 3 and Angeline killed in May.
