Zinedine Zidane and Premier League bosses in operating to interchange Erik ten Hag at Man Utd
A long roster of A-list managers has been floated to follow on from the newly-sacked Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
The Dutchman has been given his marching orders after a disappointing spell at Old Trafford that has ground along since 2022. Now, as he bows out, a number of possible heirs have been touted by bookies to be in the running to replace him.
Odds provided by Gambling.com have revealed the hot favourites to take over one of the hottest seats in football.
Ruud van Nistelrooy
At the top of the list is Ruud van Nistelrooy with the Red Devil’s legendary former striker already poised to take over the job as a caretaker according to the BBC. Prior to United’s drubbing against West Ham at the weekend, the assistant manager was also the bookies’ favourite to take on the job.
Gareth Southgate
Despite being in the conversation for months, the former England manager has seen his position in the race slip down according to the bookies. After stepping away from the Three Lions following the Euros in Germany, questions have begun to surface about what he will do next.
A couple of weeks ago, Gambling.com had him at 5/2, but that had slipped to 10/1 shortly before news broke that ten Hag was headed for the door.
Thomas Frank
The Brentford manager has won plenty of admirers during his time in West London, despite cutting things a little fine with relegation last term. With star striker Ivan Toney now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia, the question has been raised that it might be time for the Frank-Brentford era to come to an end. It’s one the bookies aren’t ruling out, putting him at 25/1 to take over the job.
Xavi
Since his time at Barcelona came to an end, the former midfield maestro has been a free agent. And, his clear ties to Barca may mean that the chances of managing another club in Spain are low – opening the door to a move aboard. It’s one for the bookies too, who had him at 10/1 shortly before news broke that ten Had had been given the boot.
Zinedine Zidane
A sensational move for the former France midfielder has been whispered for years, and it’s not one the bookies are ruling out. They have him at 25/1, although the same odds makers report that he is no closer to joining the club.
Who else has been linked to the Manchester United job?
- Ruben Amorim – 5/1
- Kieran McKenna – 14/1
- Michael Carrick – 14/1
- Graham Potter – 20/1
