Police officer flattened by large inflatable pumpkin after being chased by wild turkeys
An unlucky police officer found himself the centre of unbelievable stories twice in a few months.
Footage emerged this week of Ohio officer Grant Williams getting “attacked” by a giant runaway inflatable pumpkin. The massive Halloween decoration had blown into the road from someone’s house and blocked traffic in Bay Village, Ohio. Officers were sent out to deal with the spooky scene but when Williams turned up to dispatch the wayward veggie, it didn’t play ball. Instead of coming quietly, it rolled over Williams’ body, causing the hapless cop to disappear for nearly 20 seconds before he was spotted again.
Eventually Williams and his team managed to harness the inflatable vine and pulled it off the road and onto the grass. “Luckily, no officers (or pumpkins) were harmed during the event,” police said in a statement.
In March 2024, Williams was training rookie law enforcer Molly Searles when two wild turkeys started chasing the pair during a routine traffic stop. Dash camera footage, reported by the NYP, showed the pair pulling over a speeding suspect.
A pair of male turkeys then suddenly appeared and chased the officers back into their cruiser.
“I don’t know what it is with me, we’ll see if Santa comes to haunt me around Christmas time but I think this probably ranks up there as far as funny moments in this career,” Williams told CBS News , who hadn’t at that stage been publicly flattened by a massive inflatable pumpkin.
“Once they sat in the car you can actually hear on the video, you can hear the turkeys starting to gobble and get closer and closer to the cruiser,” Sergeant Edward Chapman told Fox 8 News .
The event spoke of a wider issue in Bay Village, which is a wildly increasing turkey population year on year, and one that gets particularly angry in the run-up to the mating season, according to NYP.
