Vanessa Feltz will take over Carol Vorderman’s Sunday present on LBC after the previous Countdown legend was compelled to stop from burnout

Broadcaster Vanessa Feltz will take over Carol Vorderman‘s Sunday slot on LBC on a permanent basis.

Former Countdown star Vorderman, 63, said she would not continue with her radio show last month after suffering ‘burnout’ from seven-day working weeks.

In a video to Instagram, Vorderman said she had a ‘tight feeling in my chest and I was utterly exhausted’, but ‘after many scans and checks, we know that I don’t have any underlying health issues whatsoever’.

Feltz, 62, joined LBC in May and presents a Saturday afternoon show where she offers opinion, analysis and a deep dive on what matters to the British public.

She said: ‘I can’t wait to be a weekend appointment to listen to. I’m looking forward to holding Britain’s biggest and most spirited conversation with my lovely LBC listeners every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.’

Tom Cheal, LBC’s senior managing editor, said: ‘Vanessa has quickly made her mark on the LBC schedule since she joined the station in May.

‘She is a genuine, straight-talking and incisive broadcaster who has proved incredibly popular with LBC listeners and knows what really matters to them, so we are excited to announce her new Sunday show.’

Vorderman joined LBC to front her new Sunday programme from 4pm to 7pm in January.

It came two months after the TV presenter left her BBC radio show saying she was ‘not prepared to lose my voice’ after the corporation introduced new social media guidelines.

Vorderman was vocal in her criticism of the previous government on social media and has had several arguments on X, formerly Twitter, with Tory MPs.

She said management decided that she should give up her Saturday morning show on BBC Radio Wales over a breach of the guidelines.

Feltz hosts Saturdays and Sundays, 3pm to 6pm, on LBC and Global Player.

Speaking on Instagram, Vorderman told fans: ‘Hello, I’ve got some news to share with you.

‘After working 7-day weeks for as long as I can remember, I finally burned out just over two weeks ago and I ended up overnight in hospital.

‘After a proper talking to from my family and my buddies, I’ve taken the health scare as a warning sign to slow down slightly and have decided to cut my work back to weekdays for now.’

Carol was heartbroken to take a step back from her role at LBC as she continued: ‘It pains me to have to do it, but I’ve decided not to carry on with my Sunday show on @LBC.

‘I’m fed up that I’ve had to make the decision, as the show’s been really lively and a total joy, with so many new callers from around the country and growing numbers of listeners.

‘The good news is that I’ll still be part of the LBC family (they’re a good family) from time to time – so stand by for more details.

‘Meanwhile, I’ll continue to cause trouble and carry on tuning into LBC too.’

Thanking fans and the team at LBC for their support, she added: ‘Thank you once again for your extraordinary support and to all my new friends at LBC – you’ve been amazing.

‘I’ll be continuing to make a lot of mischief and call out corruption and wrongdoing – that isn’t stopping but for now an ever so slightly less frenetic chapter begins. Love ya ❤️❤️’.

Fans rushed to the comments to send Carol their love as they told her to take it easy on herself.

They penned: ‘Be kind to yourself. Rest up recharged and keep up the good work.’

‘Look after yourself please. We need you. What you do is amazing and you can only keep doing it if you are well. Sending you [heart emoji]’

‘so proud of you’; ‘Take care Carol…more walks and chilling’; ‘Oh no Carol, so sorry to hear that, but it’s so important to take care of yourself and your health – and it’s tough working 7-day weeks – so you’re doing the right thing here’.

It comes after Carol revealed last month she ‘doesn’t give a toss’ about what people say about her looks as she shared the secret to her age-defying physique.
