What Arne Slot bought proper and fallacious as Liverpool produce miraculous comeback towards Brighton

It was the stuff of champions from Liverpool against Brighton, they found a way.

Brighton were the better team, they took the lead, but Liverpool hung on in there and pegged themselves back through their man of the moment: Cody Gakpo. And it took just two more minutes for Brighton to find themselves behind as Mohamed Salah did what he does best.

And as Liverpool return to the summit of the table, Daily Star Sport have a look at what Arne Slot got right and what he go wrong on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool started slowly

Did Liverpool underestimate Brighton?

The Reds were slow and sluggish in the opening stages of Saturday’s clash – and they found themselves deservedly behind against the Seagulls. It was a simple case of Brighton wanted it more, they raced out of the blocks and grabbed a goal.

Slot’s side, however, to their credit did grow back into the game – producing an exciting encounter that they were able to turn on its head.

Sticking with Cody Gakpo

Cody Gakpo was on the scoresheet against Brighton

Cody Gakpo is a phenomenal footballer, he was electric in the week and he was the man that made the different as the game past the hour mark.

Slot opted not to go to his bench, which would have been tempting as Luis Diaz patiently waited in the wings. One fan posted: “Time and time again Cody Gakpo has been clutching up for us and long may it continue!”

“Gakpo is a different player under Slot,” a second said. And another added: “Gakpo is so good, if Slot don’t give him the keys…”

One last dance from Salah

Mo Salah might be playing the best footballer of his career

How many times has Mohamed Salah bailed Liverpool out down the years?

He looked to be off in the summer, but Slot has him playing his best football in a long time. And he was on the scoresheet again on Saturday – netting Liverpool’s second as they turned the game on its head against Brighton.

“Salah is him. This generations Steven Gerrard. Always there when we need him,” one fan said. And another added: “Liverpool have done excellent to turn this game around. That Salah finish was class!”
