Flight attendant reveals actual cause they will not elevate your bag within the overhead locker for you
A flight attendant has revealed the real reason why people working in the role do not lift bags into overhead lockers for you.
Taking to TikTok, Kat Kamalani, who worked as a flight attendant for six years, addressed her one million followers on the social media platform.
She said: ‘Crazy fact…everyone thinks it’s flight attendant’s job to lift your luggage into the bins, but it’s not.
‘Actually, our airline, and a ton of other airlines, tell you do not do this because you get so many injuries with it. And you’re not even covered.’
As she points out, the US Associate of Flight Attendants advises its members not to help customers with heavy luggage in case of injury, due to insurers not covering medical bills.

She added that ‘Most airlines have these little cards that show you how to store your luggage…so it’s either going to be vertical or horizontal’.
Kat also advised her followers to test how much they are comfortable lifting above their heads to make sure they do not risk injury on a flight by attempting to shift a weight that is too heavy for them.
Should you struggle to lift heavy weights, there is no need to worry, Kat reassured viewers, as you can always swap items for a smaller bag, which can be easily stored under your seat.

She pointed out that making such a move would help customers avoid the charges that come with storing additional bags in the hold.
Reacting to the video in the comments section, viewers chimed in by saying that you could always resort to the help of someone nearby if required.
They wrote: ‘I just ask a man to do it?? What else are they for’.
Another added: ‘As someone who is 5ft, it’s more of a height issue than a weight one. Especially with the new planes and updated bins!’
One posted: ‘I’m a flight attendant and no, not all of us will help assist because that’s still lifting/holding half of the bag that could injure your back.’
