Inside ‘bizarre’ Swifties for Trump motion as Taylor followers activate Kamala Harris

A bizarre “movement” called Swifties for Trump is made up of Taylor Swift fans who feel like they aren’t “represented” by the singer’s political stances.

Last month the Shake It Off singer Swift, 34, publicly endorsed Democrat candidate Kamala Harris ahead of the US general election on November 5. It came after Donald Trump shared a series of images on his Truth Social platform, suggesting the country singer and a group of her followers were endorsing him, writing in the caption: “I accept”.

Many of the pictures Republican nominee Trump had shared were clearly fake AI images, something which led to backlash with commentators asking why he had done this. There was, however, a kernel of truth behind the MAGA man’s claims, with a group of the Love Story icon’s fans banding together to start a “movement” called Swifties for Trump.

Speaking to ABC, founder Jenna Piwowarczyk explained she had started the pro-Trump group because she didn’t feel represented by Swift’s openly held “liberal” views.

Piwowarczyk said: “Swifties for Trump – that’s such a juxtaposition of demographics. You have these group of young girls, and Taylor Swift is a liberal. Then you have this conservative [ex] president [Trump].

“Being a Swiftie and growing up with conservative principles – I just didn’t feel represented, so I wanted to start a movement that would help other women and girls who felt like that feel represented.

Some of the Trump/Swift crossovers were strange

“When Taylor Swift’s last album The Tortured Poet’s Department came out earlier this year, I was critical of some Republicans because there was a lot of backlash from conservative talk show hosts, and I thought it wasn’t a smart move from them.”

More evidence of the strange movement was unearthed by Sky, which covered a portion of Trump’s campaign trail when it arrived in Arizona last month. “We’ve had the movement in the last couple of weeks – Swifties for Trump – because Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris,” a Trump supporter said to the camera.

Another X video surfaced recently showing a woman wearing a Make America Great Again top while dancing to Taylor Swift’s hit Shake It Off. This was followed by someone urging people to “vote Donald Trump” while a strange Taylor Swift face filter was applied.

It was followed by a Democrat supporter asking: “Why would I show you that? Erm, one, they’re weird.” The liberal then said videos like that were a reason why people should come out and vote in the US election. “Two, we should assume they vote,” he said. “So, you had better vote – voting doesn’t begin November 5th, it ends then. Voting is going on now. Go and vote.”
