Donald Trump’s Man Utd hyperlinks with Glazers and pal who made Red Devils ‘fan’ snub rivals
Former US president Donald Trump has an unlikely link to Manchester United thanks to his friendship with club owner Ed Glazer.
Trump is currently fighting to return to the White House in the 2024 Presidential Election after losing to Joe Biden four years ago. He has a close relationship with Ed Glazer who is a member of the American family that has owned a majority stake in United since 2005.
The siblings sold a quarter of their stake in the Premier League club earlier this year to British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but still retain a controlling interest – meaning we could potentially see Trump at Old Trafford one day.
Ed backed Trump’s successful campaign in 2016, donating £45,000 to his efforts and hosted another £4million fundraiser at his luxurious Los Angeles mansion in 2018 ahead of the 2020 race.
The former president is well-known for his love for Golf, but it appears he’s a fan of soccer too. During an interview with Good Morning Britain in 2018, presenter Piers Morgan quizzed Trump, whose son Barron is an Arsenal fan.
Taking aim at then-manager Arsene Wenger, Morgan presented Trump with an Arsenal shirt and said: “We need a strong leader, who believes in a strong defensive wall, who believes in winning at all costs.”
Morgan must have thought he’d be able to persuade Trump to become a Gunner given his son Barron was once spotted on the White House lawn in an Arsenal shirt.
“That’s beautiful, I have a son who does love this sport,” Trump said in response to the jersey.
Morgan responded: “And he loves Arsenal, right? Are you an Arsenal fan, too?” Trump quickly snubbed the Gunners and replied: “Not particularly, no.” He then revealed that he has “a friend who owns Manchester United”.
