Quality Street followers fume ‘Christmas is ruined’ as Nestle shrink fashionable chocolate

Quality Street fans have exclaimed ‘Christmas is ruined’ after the size of a beloved chocolate is shrunk. 

Nestle – which produces the legendary chocolate selection box – has cut the size of the legendary purple hazelnut chocolate by more than a tenth. 

Brits across the nation who come together this Christmas to enjoy a Quality Street chocolate or two might find they get less bang for their buck after eagle-eyed customers spotted the size of one of the sweet treats has shrunk.

Nestle previously sparked controversy by changing the caramel treat from its Brazil nut-shaped design to a circular swirl. 

Quality Street lover Rebecca Gracey said: ‘Half of the appeal of Quality Street is/was aesthetic.

‘Changing the shape and size of much loved favourites is sacrilege.

Ms Gracey claimed she had not bought the selection box since the purple chocolate had changed shape and size. 

A Nestle spokesperson told The Sun: ‘The new shaped The Purple One sweets are slightly lighter than the previous shaped sweets, but the net weight of the tub remains the same.

‘This means people are still getting the same amount of delicious Quality Street product they know and love – just in a slightly different format.’

Last December, research by MailOnline discovered that the size of the entire Quality Street selection box has gone down from 1,200g in 2009, 720g in 2018 and 600g in 2023. 

MailOnline established that the size of other selection boxes have also reduced.

 Roses has fallen 50 per cent over the past 14 years – from 1,100g in 2009, then 660g in 2018 and now 550g and Celebrations have reduced from 975g in 2009, 650g in 2018 and now 600g
