Teacher disgusted as critter stares again at him from inside luxurious £5.50 prepared meal
A teacher spoke of his disgust after he found a “beetle” in his luxury £5.50 ready meal.
Niall Kennedy, a secondary school history teacher from Belfast, was about to tuck into a Chinese-style curry at lunchtime after a hectic day of lessons when he noticed the unwanted stowaway. He let out a shriek in the staff room and colleagues thought there was something wrong with him. He told the Daily Star: “I was disgusted, I let out a yelp and everyone turned around and said ‘what’s wrong?!’ in shock.”
He reckons the insect he saw staring back at him is a beetle. He alerted the brand, Slims Healthy Kitchen, to the issue on October 11 and they commenced an investigation.
“I had got organised and got the meal on my way to school in the morning. So I had spent a lot of time anticipating a succulent Chinese chicken curry meal,” he told us.
“I sat down and was disgusted, to be quite honest. My stomach was turned and I couldn’t eat anything at lunch time. After that I felt frustrated. The meal was £5.50 and there’s a cost of living crisis. I was also hungry for the rest of the day.”
He joked: “Hungry teachers shout at kids.” Mr Kennedy bought the meal at a Spar in Whiteabbey, Belfast. A spokesperson said they had reached out to the teacher to apologise.
The Belfast-based company told the Star: “We are aware of this incident, an exceptionally rare occurrence, and are conducting a full investigation.
“We adhere to the highest standards and are committed to understanding how this happened. We have reached out to the customer involved and apologised for this experience.”
