Moncler gross sales dip as luxurious demand slides
Getting cold: Moncler said sales over the summer were 3 per cent lower than a year earlier at £530m
The Italian puffer and ski jacket maker rumoured to be planning a bid for Burberry has become the latest luxury goods business to be hit by a lack of demand.
Milan-based Moncler, which specialises in jackets but makes everything from skirts and T-shirts to swimming costumes and hats, said sales over the summer were 3 per cent lower than a year earlier at £530m.
‘Our sector is going through a volatile phase,’ said chief executive Remo Ruffini.
Cartier owner Richemont also reported a 1 per cent slide in quarterly sales as strong demand in the Americas, Japan and the Middle East was offset by a slump in China.
Moncler is reported to be considering a bid for Burberry, whose shares are down around 70 per cent since last year’s peak.
