Dominic Solanke exhibits true colors as he opens up on Ange Postecoglou’s model of soccer
Dominic Solanke cannot get enough of Tottenham’s adventurous brand of football under Ange Postecoglou.
Despite some dodgy results and team performances this season, Spurs boss Postecoglou has refused to alter his attacking principles. And the Aussie’s stubbornness came up trumps last weekend when the North Londoners hammered top-four rivals Aston Villa in sizzling fashion.
Solanke produced a brilliant individual display as he scored twice in the 4-1 home rout of Unai Emery’s men. He now has six goals in all competitions since his club record £55milliom arrival from Bournemouth in the summer.
And the back-in-favour England international, who earlier in his career struggled to cut it during spells at Chelsea and Liverpool, admits Postecoglou’s unwavering desire to entertain is tailor-made for his own all-action style leading the line.
On the eve of Ipswich’s visit to N17, the Spurs hitman, 27, declared: “I love it, especially being a striker. The way he plays is great. There’s lots of free-flowing football and that’s suits my game. It’s been great and I’m really enjoying it so far.”
Following the Villa victory, Postecoglou showered Solanke with praise, describing his overall impact and work-rate as ‘unbelievable’. An understandably chuffed Solanke went on: “It’s always nice when you hear those things from your gaffer. I’m very happy to be working under him and with this team.
“It’s not been a bad start by us but I think we can do better. We’ve had some good results and good games but now the important thing is to find that consistency. That’s the next step.”
Tottenham’s ability to be brilliant one week and poor the next was underlined on Thursday in the Europa League as they were reduced to ten men before crashing to a 3-2 defeat at Galatasaray. Which is why Solanke, who was on the scoresheet in Turkey, insists they will not be taking three points for granted against struggling Ipswich this afternoon.
Yes, Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys are stuck inside the drop zone and still searching for that elusive first win since back-to-back promotions catapulted them into the elite. Yet, according to Solanke, the fact they are still relative newcomers at this level guarantees another seriously feisty encounter for Postecoglou’s North Londoners.
He warned: “We know there’s no easy game in the Premier League, especially when a club has just got promoted. They always have a lot of fire and fight. It will difficult.”
