Queen ‘too ailing’ to attend Remembrance Sunday occasions as Buckingham Palace shares replace
Queen Camilla will miss this weekend’s Remembrance Sunday events as continues to recover from illness.
It was announced earlier this week that the Queen was suffering from a chest infection. As a result she pulled out of numerous appearances scheduled for Thursday (November 7).
Now, Buckingham Palace has confirmed Camilla will not attend the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall this evening (Saturday, November 9). She will also be absent at the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph tomorrow (Sunday, November 10).
A spokesperson for the Palace said: “Following doctors’ guidance to ensure a full recovery from a seasonal chest infection, and to protect others from any potential risk, Her Majesty will not attend this weekend’s Remembrance events.
“While this is a source of great disappointment to The Queen, she will mark the occasion privately at home and hopes to return to public duties early next week.”
It is understood the Queen’s condition has not worsened and there is no reason for alarm. She is thought to be concerned about minimising the risk of spreading her infection to others.
Kate Middleton, who is recovering from cancer, will attend the Remembrance events, as will King Charles, who is still undergoing cancer treatment.
On Tuesday (November 5), Royal Editor of The Sunday Times Roya Nikkah shared a statement on X, which said the royal had been struck with a chest infection.
It read: “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.
“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal. She apologises to all those inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”
Queen Camilla, who recently returned from an overseas tour of Australia and Samoa, is still said to be resting privately at home under the supervision of doctors.
Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, stepped in on Camilla’s behalf to attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday. The Queen also withdrew from a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
