Ruud van Nistelrooy tells Man Utd gamers what they have to do ‘every single day’ for Ruben Amorim
Ruud van Nistelrooy has laid down the law to his Manchester United players – and warned them what it will take to get the club back to the top of English football.
Van Nistelrooy has been in caretaker charge of United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag last month. He will step aside from the start of this week, when new manager Ruben Amorim arrives in Manchester.
Van Nistelrooy admits he would like to remain part of the new coaching team at Old Trafford, and will offer his full support to Amorim. But he knows the chances of United becoming successful again ultimately rest with the players.
He said: “I will be getting behind our new head coach, Ruben Amorim, and I urge everyone who loves the club to do the same. I have worked with this squad since the summer and can tell you there is huge potential in these players.
“The coaches, club staff and supporters all have a role in helping those players become the best they can be. But of course, it starts with the players who hold themselves and each other accountable.
“Because playing for Manchester United requires massive character, hard work and dedication every single day. There is no hiding place, especially with today’s media environment.
“But that’s the kind of challenge you have to relish and meet head on. You show courage, you fight and you show your talent for yourself, for that badge on the shirt and, most importantly, for the greatest fans in the world.”
