Matt Le Tissier’s daughter-in-law says she ought to change Gary Lineker on Match of the Day
The daughter-in-law of Matt Le Tissier wants to replace Gary Lineker on Match of the Day.
Southampton fan Alex Le Tissier joked with her 55,500 followers about being the perfect candidate to front the BBC show. This comes after it was revealed the former England striker would step down at the end of the season following 25 years at the helm.
Writing on X, Alex said: “But, I would like to confirm the rumours are true. I am replacing Gary Lineker. Every show will be in lingerie. Tune in.”
She added in a separate message: “I was clearly the obvious choice. I have great ball skills and I’ve been on late night TV plenty of times. Game set match.”
And speaking to the Daily Star, the model cheekily added: “I should be able to wear lingerie each show given Gary was half naked. It would only be fair, if not it would be sexist.”
Lineker, 63, followed through on his promise to present Match of the Day in his underwear in 2016 after his beloved Leicester City won the Premier League.
Alex meanwhile became a well-known name after dragging her family out crippling debts after she turned to racy modelling during the pandemic.
The move did not go down well with her famous father-in-law who she accused of calling her a “bad mum” for her career choices.
Le Tissier has been critical of Lineker in the past and he told GB News last year: “I can tell you Gary Lineker is no saint, not in any way, shape or form. There’s very few of us around that are saints. I’m no saint, we’ve all made mistakes in our lives but we don’t all virtue signal to the extent that Mr Lineker does.
“I don’t even have to imagine, there are quite a few skeletons in Gary’s closet down the years. He’s obviously got some friends in very high places who have protected him, there’s no two ways about that.”
But asked who he would rather present Match of the Day between Lineker and his daughter-in-law, Alex laughed: “I think he would still prefer Gary over me! Gary and I have the same exact political opinions.”
Lineker has been the face of the highlights programme since 1999 and will continue to front BBC’s coverage of the FA Cup and World Cup.
Breaking his silence today, he said: “I’m delighted to continue my long association with BBC Sport and would like to thank all those who made this happen.”
