Mike Tyson’s current claims he ‘virtually died’ to be probed by Texas boxing officers days earlier than Jake Paul combat
- Tyson explained how he was throwing up blood and ‘defecating tar’ on the plane
- The 58-year-old will return to the ring next weekend to fight Jake Paul in Texas
Mike Tyson‘s recent comments about a major health scare he suffered earlier this year will be investigated by officials in Texas just days before his showdown with Jake Paul.
The 58-year-old revealed earlier this month that he threw up blood before passing out during a medical emergency in May.
Tyson said he became nauseous and dizzy on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles, forcing airline staff to ask passengers if there was a doctor on board.
Paramedics later boarded the plane to treat Tyson after it had touched down in Los Angeles – with Iron Mike stating he was ‘defecating tar’.
Tyson was taken straight to hospital and treated by a series of doctors, who refused to rule out of the possibility of death, according to Iron Mike.

During Netflix‘s docu-series in the build up to Tyson’s fight with Paul, the 58-year-old explained how the doctors had found a two and a half inch ulcer.
The fight was due to take place in July, but that incident forced them to postpone proceedings.
Tyson said: ‘A week and a half ago I was training and I was doing great. Then I started feeling tired. I was explaining to my trainer, I don’t know what is wrong with me.
‘Then coming here from Miami on the plane, I went to the bathroom and I threw up blood. The next thing I knew I was on the floor. I was defecating tar.
‘I went to the hospital and they found I had an ulcer. It was two and a half inches, it was bleeding. All my friends were calling me like I was dying.
‘I asked the doctor whether I was going to die and she didn’t say no. She said we have options though. That’s when I got nervous.’
Iron Mike finished by saying: ‘I just wanted to get out of that f***ing hospital bed. I don’t want to die in a hospital bed. I want to die in the ring. ‘
Now it’s been revealed that the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation – who are overseeing the right – will look into Tyson’s comments.
‘Thorough pre-fight physicals will be conducted by TDLR-appointed physicians, who will discuss Mr Tyson’s medical history with him,’ a TDLR spokesperson told World Boxing News.

However, it’s expected the Texas Licensing Regulators will not assess Tyson again until the day before the fight takes place.
Therefore, there is a high risk that the bout could be cancelled just 24 hours before Iron Mike is set to step back into the ring.
The result of the assessment could see the fight be downgraded from a professional one to an exhibition or even cancelled.
However, Tyson is confident the bout will go ahead as planned and insists he is ready to dismantle Paul despite suffering a medical emergency earlier this year.
Tyson has given marijuana up while training to fight Paul because it is on the list of banned substances used by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
He also revealed he’s given up sex temporarily as part of his training regime to ensure he is at his most dangerous on fight night.
‘He only stopped as a means of following all of the rules,’ his publicist Joann Mignano recently told USA TODAY Sports.
‘But he is still a strong advocate for the medicinal benefits of cannabis for his personal well-being and others like him.”
