Bus carrying schoolchildren collides with lorry as 10 are taken to hospital with 16 injured in whole

A bus carrying schoolchildren has ploughed into a lorry, leaving 16 injured.

The collision took place at around 9.30am today on the A46 northbound near Syston, Leicestershire.

Ten people were rushed to hospital, with 16 people injured in total.

Police confirmed the crash involved a bus and a HGV.

Leicestershire Police posted on X this morning: ‘Traffic Update. Please be advised the A46 is currently closed travelling Northbound at Syston/Sileby.

‘Please find alternative routes and updates to follow. ‘

The force said in a statement this afternoon: “Emergency services responded at the time and local road closures were put in place. The road has since been reopened.”
