Harry Kane accuses workforce mates of ‘turning their backs’ on England forward of sport
Harry Kane has hit out at some of his England team-mates and accused them of turning their backs on their country.
Nine Three Lions stars have pulled out of the squad for the upcoming Nations League games against Greece and Republic of Ireland.
It’s feared some of the dropouts have taken advantage of the fact incoming boss Thomas Tuchel is not around to start his job until the start of 2024.
And England captain Kane admits he is dissappointed some of the no-shows have used the situation to their advantage.
Kane has told them England should always come first. He said: “The joy to play for England. He (Gareth Southgate) brought that back.
“Every camp people were excited to come, wanted to play for England and that’s the most important thing.
“England comes before anything. England comes before club.
“England is the most important thing you play as a professional footballer, and Gareth was hot on that and he wasn’t afraid to make decisions if that started to drift from certain players.
“It’s a shame this week. It’s a tough period of the season and maybe that’s been taken advantage of a little bit.
“I don’t really like it if I’m totally honest. England comes before anything, any club situation.”
Meanwhile, Kane believes Thomas Tuchel is the perfect choice as England manager.
And he believes appointing the German gives the Three Lions the best possible chance of winning the next World Cup.
Kane admits he was surprised when the FA made Tuchel Gareth Southgate’s successor.
But the England captain knows his former Bayern Munich boss is a proven winner.
Kane said: “I was surprised to be honest. I was not expecting it.
“I worked with Thomas last year and had a really good relationship with him and expected him to go back to club football.
“He is an all-round great person and he will bring a lot of energy and passion to the team.
“You have to try and pick the best coach to win a major tournament – and we are at that stage now.
“The only step is to win – and Thomas brings a winning mentality, especially at tournaments, something he excels in.
“Tactically, he is one of the best managers there is. He has an amazing brain and he understands all the small things which matter.
“I think they have (appointed the best option). He is straight talking if you are doing well or bad.
“He treats you like an adult and on the pitch he is demanding.”
