Man Utd icon requires ‘endurance’ as Ruben Amorim arrives at Old Trafford
Edwin van der Sar believes Manchester United supporters will have to be patient when it comes to seeing their club becoming serial winners again.
United have not won the Premier League title since 2013, or the Champions League since 2008.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group bought a stake in the club at the start of 2023, and have set about changing the football side of operations at Old Trafford.
This has included sacking Erik ten Hag, and replacing him with Ruben Amorim as the new manager. But former United star Van der Sar, fears it could take a long time for the fallen giants to get back to the top of the game again.
Appearing on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, presented by Qatar Airways, Van der Sar said: “How long do we have? No, I think stability is the main thing. I think there’s always been a lot of opposition, let’s say, against the Glazers.
“They bought the club, and the last 10, 12 years have not brought that (success) to Manchester United. And I think the line what they have now with a new CEO, a new football director, a sport director, you have Jim Ratcliffe responsible for the sport side.
“The Glazers are still on the commercial side and have the major ownership. I think you have to give it time now, to develop that stability that the club needs.”
