Embarrassment has led to more than half of UK motorists to replace their car, according to new research.

Carwow, the online car changing marketplace, has revealed just how common it is for Brits to be left red-faced by their vehicle, and the reasons why.

According to the study, it’s when a car breaks down that triggers the most embarrassment with 42% of drivers left cringing after their vehicle wouldn’t start. Over a fifth get all hot under the collar when struggling to park without sensors; and a similar amount feel awkward when their passengers have to travel with bags on their laps due to lack of space.

Overall, Carwow’s research into what causes drivers to cringe in their cars and found the top factors that cause embarrassment are:

When thinking about a car change, it’s important to do your research and prioritise what is going to suit your lifestyle for the long term. We’d encourage drivers to spend time considering their needs and look at the car changing options available.”

Reid added: “While your car might make you cringe, it could be someone else’s dream vehicle. Upgrading your car has never been easier, with all the resources you need in one place online at Carwow.”
