Women fear about ’embarrassing’ leaks when on their interval
A hefty 81% of women who menstruate have anxiety over potential leaks when on their period and a whopping 65% have to grapple with pad discomfort, a new survey has revealed.
The poll, which gauged the experiences of 1,000 women, revealed that a staggering 86% take drastic measures to sidestep embarrassing ‘period blunders’.
The study exposed that over two thirds reckon it’s normal to have to tweak their daily routines to help dodge leaks and deal with the nuisance of pads.
A fifth of participants regularly experience leaks during their period, with a third having cancelled social plans in the past because of leak. Almost half have had their pads scrunch up, making it difficult to keep in place.
To deal with these common occurrences, a third always carry around a spare pair of underwear and most of those surveyed opt to wear dark coloured clothing when on their period, just in case.
To help manage leaks, a quarter double up on pads and a third avoid sitting on light coloured furniture. For those who experience regular pad discomfort they regularly have to adjust how they sit or put on fuller underwear to help ensure the pad stays in place.
The research was commissioned by Always to celebrate their FlexProtect range made with SmartFoam technology. A spokesperson for the period protection brand, said: “We want women to have reliable protection that makes them feel as comfortable as possible whilst on their period.”
They added: “By normalising the conversation, we hope to enable girls and women to feel confident in managing their periods with suitable solutions that offer the right protection.”
