Wrestling star reveals precisely what he was doing when WWE gave him the dreaded name
An ex-WWE star has revealed where he was when the sports entertainment giants called to tell him he was no longer employed. Current TNA wrestler Trent Seven was speaking to the Daily Star ahead of an appearance in his home town for Burning Heart Pro Wrestling on November 16 at the Wolverhampton Astoria when he recalled getting a phone call from WWE in 2022.
Ahead of the Wolverhampton-born 43-year-old’s appearance on home soil, the former two-time NXT UK Tag Team Champion told us exactly how he was told NXT UK was being closed down and he wouldn’t be one of the few British talents making the move to Orlando, Florida to work on the main NXT brand.
“I’m gutted that it didn’t work out, but during my time there I had the most unreal experience. I had some incredible moments and incredible matches.
“I look back on my time in WWE incredibly fondly, and what they did with that input of cash, and faith in the UK scene helped British wrestling. Unfortunately, I got a phone call while on holiday in Barcelona for my birthday saying that I wasn’t on a very short list of people going to Orlando – life’s tough but you’ve got to pull your pants up and carry on wrestling. Good things come to those who wait.”
Trent was a mainstay on WWE’s NXT UK brand from its inception in 2018 until its demise in 2022. His final victorious appearance was in the semi-final of the NXT UK Championship tournament where he beat Oliver Carter. He went on to lose the final to Tyler Bate during an episode filmed inside the-then rather empty BT Sport studios – it was also the last ever NXT UK episode and final match to take place in the brand’s history.
Since then, he has appeared for All Elite Wrestling and more recently – and frequently – for TNA Wrestling. Trent has also returned to the UK scene with sporadic appearances, latterly for the new promotion of Burning Heart Pro Wrestling.
Trent will be wrestling a former world champion at BHPW in Kid Lykos in his home town, and spoke about how excited he is to appear. Calling the shows “incredible value”, he said: “Wolverhampton has always been an excellent hot bed for wrestling. This is something that fans can get close to and be more interactive and I feel like we can tell some real stories and entertain some crowds.
“You turn up, your presentation is really good, your quality of wrestling is there – get in, get it done and just f***ing entertain.”
