Daredevil ‘The Shadow’ killed after somersault over raging bull goes horribly flawed

A daredevil nicknamed The Shadow has died performing a bold stunt over a furious bull which went horribly wrong and left festivalgoers horrified.

Jhon Mario Puello Caballero attempted a daring somersault over a raging bull during a customary festivity in Bolivar, Colombia, on Tuesday (November 12). In devastating scenes, the crowd’s cheers soared as he made the move initially until the scene soon turned to horror. Waving colourful banners of yellow and red high into the air, their elation soon turned sinister as it became clear the man was fatally struck when he collided with the bull’s head as it tried to buck him off.

Courageous bystanders rushed to his aid, dragging his body from the arena, only to abruptly drop him as they had to dash for safety from the charging bull.

The injured man was finally retrieved once the scene was deemed safe with local reports saying Mr. Caballero frequently participated in flag-bearing performances in South America. He died instantly upon impact, reports the Mirror.

Earlier this year a similar incident claimed a life during a bull-riding event in Guadalajara province, Castille-La Mancha, Spain, on September 7. The local mayor, Jose Luis Gonzalez Lamola, honoured the unidentified deceased while speaking about the sorrowful event.

He remarked at the time: “We deeply regret the unfortunate accident that occurred during the bullfighting festivities during the patron saint festivities.

“As a sign of mourning we have decided to lower the flags that fly outside municipal buildings to half-mast, to hang a black crepe on the flags located inside municipal buildings and to suspend all official public events organised by the El Casar council for the duration of the official mourning.”

Sad reports indicate there have been multiple deaths linked to bull-riding over the past year. The local animal defence association of El Casar also expressed their concerns.

“Beyond the legal issues, these incidents generate costs and consequences that affect all members of the public, including those who oppose these events. The pain for this new victim is profound and part of our struggle is to prevent tragedies like this from happening,” they said.

“Is this the best way to invest our resources and enjoy our leisure time? These kinds of events not only put people and animals at risk, but also expose children to traumatic situations that can mark their perception of the world. The welfare of people and respect for animals must be priorities in modern society and it is our responsibility to rethink whether these events reflect the values we want to promote.”
