Met Office warning as elements of UK to be blasted with snow flurries from tomorrow

A weather warning for snow has been unleashed across parts of the UK with half a foot of the white stuff predicted in some locations.

The Met Office is warning of 42-hours of flurries with snow forecast from 10am on Sunday, November 17, to 10am on Tuesday, November 19. The forecaster is warning Brits to brace for as much as 20cm of snow on higher areas of ground. That’s throughout Monday and Tuesday as a weather warning will be in place.

There’s also a possibility of lower levels seeing 10cm of snow with the potential to cause travel delays and traffic chaos, reports Birmingham Live.

The UK based company has issued a yellow weather alert meaning “low-level impacts” are expected. It will affect Scotland, Yorkshire and other areas. The specific areas are Grampian Highlands and Eilean Siar, Orkney and Shetland, North West England, Yorkshire and the Humber and North East England.

A separate warning for snow and ice is also in place across northern Scotland from 4pm on Sunday until 11am on Monday.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Rebekah Hicks said: “A notable early winter cold spell will arrive across the north from Sunday and will likely reach all parts of the UK by midweek.

“Temperatures will drop as a northerly airflow develops, bringing in colder Arctic air. This introduces the possibility of snow, initially over high ground in the north from Sunday, with gusty winds also a potential hazard.”

Sunday

Hazy spells of sunshine will be replaced by cloud and patchy rain across northern and western parts. Further wintry showers for northern Scotland. Driest and brightest towards the south.

Monday to Wednesday

Wet for many on Monday, with snow possible across northern hills and lower levels for Scotland. Brighter on Tuesday and Wednesday, with sunshine and wintry showers. Feeling much colder.

Wednesday to Friday

Cold or very cold conditions are likely to affect most if not all parts of the UK early in this period, with wintry showers affecting in particular northern parts and exposed coastal districts.

Overnight frost will likely be widespread and occasionally strong winds will result in significant wind chill. However, there may be some more organised areas of rain and snow, accompanied by strong winds, which run across some parts.

This could lead to some disruptive weather at times. Briefly milder conditions may accompany these in the south. There is a hint that it may become less cold late in the period, but still likely remain mostly unsettled with further spells of rain and snow.
