Plane crashes to the bottom at In-n-Out NHRA Finals

At least three people are injured after a small plane crashed into a California raceway on Sunday.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said the plane – a Piper PA-32 – crashed around 11:10 a.m. PT at the In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip.

Three passengers were transported to local area hospitals with moderate to severe injuries.  

The crash took place during the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) finals and racing was put on hold.

The aircraft was attempting to land at Brackett Field Airport in La Verne, but crashed into a large RV and destroyed two large pickup trucks, reported Daily Bulletin

It is unclear what caused the crash and the pilot’s condition is unknown. 

Flight tracking data showed the aircraft took off from Apple Valley at 10:40 a.m. PST on Sunday. 

The plane is a fixed wing single engine with six seats.

NHRA said the Top Fuel round was race was halted just was competitors were preparing to enter the first round, but they expect to resume at 1 p.m. PT.

‘We are investigating an apparent small plane crash near the dragstrip in Pomona while it was apparently attempting to land at nearby Brackett Field Airport on Sunday,’ NHRA said. 

‘Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident. We are on extended hold. All race cars have returned to the pits for now, but the word is the event is expected to continue.’
