Gran pulls cocaine out of her knickers and tells cops ‘everybody has their poison’

A granny who kept a number of cocaine wraps in her knickers for safe keeping attempted to cast them away as she was getting nicked by cops.

Caroline Cochrane, from Welbeck Road, in Walker, Newcastle, was being detained for breaching the peace when she rummaged around her crotch to pull out the drugs before throwing them away in full view of coppers. Police then recovered the drugs, which were found to be cocaine, the Newcastle Magistrates’ Court heard. The 49-year-old later referred to her crotch cocaine as her “poison”.

The ballsy grandma was due for her court appearance on Wednesday, November 13, however, the gran was a no show, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Within 24 hours, Caroline had been detained and appeared in the dock in custody to plead guilty to possession of a class A drug.

Prosecutor Claire Armstrong said police were called to reports of an assault on Cochrane on October 29 this year. When the cops turned up, they found the grandmother to be in a “heightened state”.

The lawyer continued: “She was arrested for breach of the peace. When officers put handcuffs on her, they noticed she tensed up one hand and put her hand down her pants and pulled out several packets of white powder and threw them across the road.”

The court heard that Cochrane had numerous offences on her record, including two for drug possession. Peter Farrier, defending, said the cocaine was for her own personal use.

Mr Farrier added: “She’s a single grandmother. She’s in receipt of benefits. She didn’t receive much guidance in her younger life. When asked why she takes cocaine, she says ‘well, everyone has got their poison.'”

Cochrane was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
