Man wins £10million on the lottery however donates cash as he needs ‘to be hands-off’
A man scooped £10million ($13million) on the lottery and donated part of his winnings to a charity which has been gobsmacked by his generosity.
The Alaskan charity is over the moon after local Homer resident Jules Ravin and his family donated a jaw-dropping $1.2million from their Lotto Alaska jackpot win. The Homer Foundation was all smiles on Thursday night as they accepted the hefty cheque, with Executive Director Stacey Schultz telling Alaska’s News Source: “It’s a lot of money” and “It is a gamechanger for our foundation”.
Ravin, who won a massive $13million in the Alaska Lotto “Chase the Ace” game, decided to give back to his community by donating a chunk of his winnings. He earmarked $1million for the foundation’s investment and $200,000 for immediate use.
Schultz expressed excitement about the donation’s potential, saying: “This was a huge spark for us,” and added the funds will help establish an after-school program for local kids, although it’s still in the planning phase. “To actually invest that money so that money will grow, and then we’ll be able to use it year after year, so that we know it’s not going to disappear,” he said.
Schultz also mentioned that Ravin and his family prefer to take a step back and let the community lead the way, stating: “Jules and his family want to be pretty hands-off.” Schultz added: “They trust the community to be able to get this all implemented. They really want the community to be involved and to add to this fund to help with those operational costs over the years,” reports the Mirror US.
“The Homer Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the greater Homer area by promoting philanthropic and charitable activities,” the foundation proclaims on their site. Founded in 1991 by the generous Ken Castner and Steve Yoshida, the organisation boasts a plethora of programmes, dishing out grants and scholarships to local students with dreams of hitting the books at university.
Their website proudly claims a whopping £5million has been splashed out in grants and scholarships during their impressive near four-decade stint.
