‘Massive explosion’ shakes homes in North Wales petrified residents left mystified
Buildings trembled and residents fled to the streets following a “massive explosion” on the Welsh island of Anglesey. Emergency services rushed to Holyhead this morning, Monday, November 18 as locals were left puzzled over the cause of the blast.
The explosion reportedly originated from the London Road industrial estate at the port shortly after 9am. One man shared on social media that his entire workplace was shaken, stating: “Everyone in the factory and the neighbouring factory came out wondering what the hell it was. The birds here went mad.” Those still in bed were jolted awake by the noise or vibrations. The blast caused concern among school-run mums and left a potential home-buyer questioning his choice of Holyhead.
Customers at the nearby Asda store heard the bang, while local residents experienced a tremor rumbling through their homes. “I literally felt it, quite scary,” one woman posted online, while another said: “I’m in Kingsland and my whole house shook!”
Following the incident, helicopters were reported to be conducting aerial checks, reports North Wales Live. However, not all Holyhead residents were affected. Many took to social media to express their confusion, claiming they didn’t hear or feel anything. With no visible flames or smoke, the source of the explosion remained an enigma.
The North Wales Fire & Rescue Service confirmed there had been a “small explosion” that’s believed to have taken place inside a shipping container, but that noone was hurt.
A NWFRS spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of an explosion in the area at 9.19am this morning. Crews carried out a full investigation of the area.”
“The small explosion caused heat damage to a forklift truck within a shipping container. No equipment was used and there were no casualties.”
The explosion was reported to have taken place near the busy port and train station, however the fire service has not confirmed the location. North Wales Police did not attend the incident.
