Moment takeaway employee is arrested after he killed father with metallic chair in row exterior a fish and chip store

This is the moment a takeaway worker was arrested after he killed a father with a metal chair in a row outside a fish and chip shop.

Rashko Kurtev, 32, got into an argument with Rodney Macleod, 46, outside the Seabells Fish and Chip shop in Birchington, Kent, on March 9.

Kurtev, who worked at the business, came outside during the spat and threw some of Mr Macleod’s belongings at him – before hurling two metal chairs in his direction.

The second chair hit father-of-two Mr Macleod in the head – causing serious injuries which ultimately led to his death in hospital just over a month later, on April 15.

Footage shows Kurtev being arrested at the scene. He was initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He later pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Canterbury Crown Court and was jailed for three years and nine months.

Witnesses to the incident said that Mr Macleod had fallen to the ground when the chair hit him.

He was rushed to a local hospital before being airlifted to a London hospital. But he tragically never recovered from his injuries.

A post-mortem examination listed his traumatic brain injury among the causes of his death.

Detective Inspector Colin McKeen said Mr Macleod’s death is evidence of the ‘catastrophic’ consequences of people turning to violence.

He said: ‘This case shows the catastrophic consequences of people turning to violence during disagreements.

‘One man has lost his life and another is in jail following an argument which this offender could just have walked away from.

‘The use of a metal chair as a weapon was completely unnecessary.

‘I would like to offer my condolences to the victim’s family and friends.

‘I hope the swift investigation and court proceedings help give them some sense of closure as they try to cope with their loss.’
