Marcus Rashford has one phrase to explain Man Utd coaching below Ruben Amorim

Marcus Rashford has heaped praise on new Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim after experiencing his first training session under the Portuguese manager’s guidance.

Amorim, who made the switch to Old Trafford from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, officially started his role last week. A work visa issue prevented him taking a training session initially and due to international commitments, many of the squad were absent.

Despite this, a select group, including Rashford, got down to business at Carrington on Monday. With only 10 senior players available for the session, the ranks were bolstered by several up-and-coming academy talents.

Among those joining Rashford were Kobbie Mainoo, working his way back to peak condition, and Leny Yoro, who is yet to make his competitive debut following his summer transfer from Lille. Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez also participated in the session, reports the Mirror.

Rashford later took to social media to express his approval. The forward, who has made headlines this past week for a trip to New York after being dropped by England, said: “Top session today.”

Amorim is set to lead his first match this coming Sunday at Portman Road against Ipswich Town. The 39-year-old coach arrives with an impressive resume, having secured two league titles with Sporting and other domestic honours, and has been tasked with reviving United’s dismal season so far, with the Red Devils slumped 13th in the Premier League table.

Known for his dynamic style of play, Amorim’s immediate focus is on instilling his tactical vision within the team. Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “We know that we need time, but we have to win time. To win time is to win games. But the most important thing for me is identity. So since day one we will start with our identity.

“Of course we are going to prepare the games, but we will focus a lot in our game model. How to play, how to press, these small things, small details. You cannot go 100% on every detail because it will be confusing for the players. So if I have to say one thing, my main goal, my first goal, is identity.”

Amorim may only have two full training sessions with his entire squad before he makes his managerial debut in England. There is huge anticipation ahead of his opening outfit and the new manager insists his philosophy will be evident. “You will see an idea. This I can guarantee,” he said.

The biggest challenge for the Manchester outfit, who have endured their worst ever start to a Premier League season, will be adjusting to playing with three at the back. Amorim is likely to use three centre-halves within his system and employ wing-backs.

The unique system has rarely been used in England. Its biggest success story was during Antonio Conte’s Chelsea spell, but many of the players at Old Trafford won’t have played that formation for a prolonged period during their careers.
