Simpsons predicted Netflix struggle the place ‘fool’ Homer takes on veteran boxer

The Simpsons has once again appeared to predict a real-world event, with many claiming a scene from the fictional cartoon series portrays the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight last week.

In an episode named They Fall, Homer Simpson prepares for a fight against world-famous boxer Drederick Tatum. Tatum is a fictional character heavily based on Mike Tyson, sporting an extremely large size, an ever-present lisp and a troubled history of violent outbursts and incidents, much like the real one.

Following the Netflix-screened fight on Friday (November 15) – won by unanimous decision by YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul – people flocked to a clip from the family favourite TV show to highlight the similarities.

“Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul lol,” someone said. Another chimed: “This actually happened last night lol.”

At the end of the fight, Homer looks to be losing against Tatum which ends with his manager Moe coming to airlift him out of the ring to safety but not before getting a vicious beating. “This is what Mike should’ve done to Jake,” someone noted.

Not everyone was sold as to the accuracy of the prediction this time round, however. “Here after the Tyson/Paul fight,” another fan wrote. “The only thing they got right was the line..’ whatever dignity boxing had left has flown out the window’.”

For years, writers of The Simpsons have fallen under suspicion for their “psychic powers” having “predicted” a string of real-life occurrences from Donald Trump’s presidency, the loss of the Titanic submarine and even the Willy Wonka Chocolate Experience fiasco.

In an early special episode of The Simpsons that aired on the Tracey Ullman show in 1987, Homer pranks his family with scares of World War Three.

He states: “Wake up everybody. It’s a World War Three. Quick! Down to the fallout shelter. The bombs are dropping…If this were really a nuclear war, we would all be dead by now.”
