Gino D’Acampo says ‘I don’t care’ as he makes main determination after household tragedy

Famed cook Gino D’Acampo opened up about a poignant life choice he made following the loss of his parents when they were relatively young.

In a candid conversation with Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast, the Italian chef, aged 48, disclosed how the sad events led him to vow never to do one particular thing.

During the chat, as Kate quizzed him on his deal-breakers and what he absolutely refuses to compromise on, Gino declared: “I will not budge on working on my holidays. From the 15th June until the 15th September, I do not care who you are, how much money you have got, how big the show is, I do not care.

“And, I’ve said no to the biggest show that you can think of, nationally and internationally.”

Pressing him for the reasons behind his firm stance against working during his breaks, the TV cook revealed: “I lost my parents when they were very young, both of them in their 60s, so I didn’t have a mum and dad when I was about 35 or 36-years-old.”, reports the Express.

Continuing his personal tale, he confided: “What happened at that point Kate, I started to think, could life be shorter than what I think or what we believe? I really started to believe that life is not as long as we think, and that was the moment that I thought, okay, I have the money, I made a few money in the bank, so I don’t have to worry about it.”

Concluding his heart-to-heart, he reflected: “Now what is it that I want to do with my life? Do I want to bank more money or do I want to bank more memories? “.

The chef, who has graced our screens in a host of TV shows over the years, is reportedly teaming up with his culinary comrade, Fred Sirieix, for a fresh series. The new venture will see the duo gallivanting around Europe on a quest to promote sustainable eating.

Born and bred in Torre Del Greco in Italy, Gino made the leap to the UK in 1995 at the tender age of 19. He cut his teeth in eateries across London and Surrey.

In the ensuing years, Gino’s career has been on an upward trajectory, boasting a slew of cookbooks and television appearances.
