Ruben Amorim’s ‘ego’ could possibly be accountable for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Man Utd exit, says legend

Louis Saha claims Ruben Amorim’s ego could be to blame for Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s Manchester United exit.

Van Nistelrooy took charge of United on a caretaker basis following the sacking of Erik ten Hag last month. The former United striker led the team on an unbeaten four match run, which included three wins.

Van Nistelrooy wanted to remain at United and be part of new United manager Amorim’s new coaching set up. But within 24 hours of Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford, Van Nistelrooy had been told he was no longer wanted.

And Saha reckons Amorim wanted Van Nistelrooy gone because he could have felt threatened by him. Van Nistelrooy is one of the leading candidates to take charge at Coventry City.

And Saha told Betfred: “I think he indicated to Amorim that he’s got the quality to be a manager on a full-time basis, so the decision could be an ego thing. It could have been difficult for Amorim, to have such an influential figure in his coaching staff.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will not be part of Ruben Amorim’s coaching staff

“Manchester United improved under Ruud, and if they don’t start well under Amorim, then comparisons could be made. The decision may have not even been the manager’s, it could have been a decision that came from INEOS. I don’t know.

“There’s speculation suggesting that they parted ways with Sir Alex Ferguson, so it’s very strange. I know Ruud, and I know that he can raise his voice when he’s not happy and he’s got a fantastic footballing brain.

“He has everything you need to be a good manager, and he’s learnt from the best coaches, so if the rumours are true, then Coventry City are making the right move.”
