Everything we find out about ‘Baby A’ discovered lifeless in snow-covered discipline by canine walker

A shocking discovery of a dead baby in Greater Manchester has left police and locals searching for answers.

The child, known only as ‘Baby A’, was found in a snow-covered field. Police are now appealing to the baby’s mum and dad to get in touch and also to members of the public who may know something about the tragic situation.

Details are currently limited, with the ethnicity and gender of the child not yet made public. Moved residents still left flowers for the tot, found in what one local has called a busy area. So what do we know?

An investigation is ongoing. Cops do not yet know the gender, age or ethnicity of the infant. Police are working with a number of lines of enquiry.

Chief Superintendent Neil Blackwood said on Wednesday that an investigation will take time.

“Tragically, today, we have found what we believe to be the remains of a young baby on Ravenscraig Road in Salford,” he said.

“We have a scene in place, and you will likely see an increased presence of officers in the local area while we carry out enquiries to understand the circumstances.”

The chief added: “The most important thing for us right now is to find answers for this baby and I would urge anyone who has any information at all to get in touch with us.”

Local Michelle Eddison, 43, told The Sun: “This area is really popular with dog walkers and kids. It’s always busy during the day. We’ve walked our dog here many times.

“There would be no time to leave a baby. This is a very busy road and the mother could be from anywhere really. The whole community is rattled, really shocked.”

Julie Cooper, 45, added that the location of the discovery could mean someone drove there. “They could have come from anywhere,” she said.

Locals stunned

Horrified locals were moved to leave floral tributes at the site the child was found. Dawn Thompson, 31, was one of the people who visited the site.

Attending with her baby daughter, just four months old, Dawn said: “I’ve come to pay my respects to the little baby. I’ve got my own, so it hits a lot harder when you see something like this.

“It’s horrible to know it was a baby and I feel sorry for the poor person whose found it. It made me cuddle my own baby a bit more.

“We don’t know who the little baby’s family are. It’s hard to know what to think until you know why they’ve done this.”
