Tributes have poured in for a  ‘loving’ grandfather who died after being struck by a car on a forecourt.

Jonathan Elliott, 62, was on foot when he was caught up in a two-car crash outside a Sainsbury’s petrol station in Torquay, Cornwall, on November 1.

Mr Elliott was rushed to hospital but tragically passed away just days later on November 7.

His family said: ‘Jon Elliott, 62 years old, was loved dearly by his family and local community.

‘He was struck by a vehicle on November 1st at Sainsbury’s in Torquay and sadly died on the 7 November at Derriford Hospital.

‘At this time, the family ask for privacy whilst they come to terms with the loss of such a large loving character, they pay tribute to such a wonderful son, brother, husband, dad and grandad.’

A customer inside the petrol station was also injured in the collision – which involved a black Hyundai Getz and silver Honda Jazz – and police said at the time that they were recovering at home.

Sergeant Troy Bennett from the serious collisions investigation team, said after Mr Elliott’s death: ‘Our thoughts are with the family of the pedestrian who has sadly died, and we are currently investigating the circumstances of the collision.

‘I would like to thank the members of the public who helped with first aid and remained to talk with officers.’

Any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, but who may have seen the collision or have dashcam footage, are asked to contact Devon and Cornwall police via their website or by calling 101, quoting log 593 of 1/11/24.
